Semitrailer found with $1 million worth of stolen shoes in Box Elder County

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Utah authorities say they discovered $1 million worth of shoes inside a semitrailer that was reported stolen out of Portland, Oregon.

The Utah Highway Patrol says they spotted the stolen semitrailer Monday at a truck stop in Box Elder County in northwest Utah.

Inside the trailer they found about 5,800 pairs of shoes. Authorities say the retail value of the shoes is about $1 million.

The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1BuuUQt ) the shoes were Keen brand shoes. The Portland-based company makes sandals, hiking shoes and other footwear for outdoor activities.

Two suspects in custody are suspected to be in the country illegally so Utah officials are working with federal immigration agents.
