The Logan Library launched its year-long centennial celebration over the weekend and Library Director Robert Shupe says there will be a lot to celebrate during the coming months.
One problem, however, is the library building itself which is old and deteriorated, needing repairs and an update in seismic codes.
“But in addition to that, as wonderful as this building has been, and is, and we appreciate it, this building was not designed as a library,” Shupe explains. “There is a lot of inefficient use of space with this library design.
“Plus, standards from the library industry would indicate that a city with the population of Logan, both the current population and projected population, those standards alone indicate that we need more space.”
Shupe says he’s hoping it won’t be long before a new library will become a reality. Logan City administrations have had a new library under discussion for the last several years although it has not been decided what the location would be or how much money to dedicate to the project.
