With the chance of rain at 90% on Saturday, organizers of Smithfield City’s Health Days are canceling some of the day’s planned activities while hoping to get in others.
Recreation Director Brett Daniels said they are still planning on holding the parade, fun run and other morning activities. The afternoon activities in the park have had to be canceled because of the heavy rain that has saturated the ground.
“We are still going forward with all of our activities with the exception to the park activities, where we’ve set up the amusement rides, the booth rentals and the food booths,” said Daniels. “Basically everything is still on except for the activities in the park from about 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. That’s what has been canceled at this point.”
Daniels said other activities may have to be changed depending on the weather but they are hoping not have to cancel anything else.
“We have the breakfast in the morning, that should be fine because it is indoors,” said Daniels. “We do have the fun run at Mack Park and we should be able to get that in okay, I think we have a lot of die hard runners that are used to running in bad weather.”
“The parade follows that at ten o’clock and we hope to get that in,” said Daniels. “Following that is those activities that will be canceled. At this point we still hope to get in the baseball game and fireworks at night.”
Health Days is a yearly event hosted by the Smithfield City Recreation Department.
