LOGAN, Utah – Jana Doggett, Executive Associate Athletics Director for External Operations and Senior Woman’s Administrator, has been appointed interim Athletics Director by Utah State University President Stan L. Albrecht it was announced Wednesday.
Doggett will assume the duties of Scott Barnes, USU’s Vice President and Director of Athletics since March of 2008, who accepted the Athletics Director post at the University of Pittsburgh on April 24. Barnes’ last day at USU will be Friday, May 29.
“We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Jana’s caliber to seamlessly transition our athletic department during the summer months,” said Albrecht. “There is no one better prepared to provide the needed leadership and stability as we move to the next chapter in Aggie Athletics.”
Doggett is in her ninth year with the Utah State Athletics Department and fourth as Executive Associate Athletics Director after spending her first five years as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations.
In February, Doggett was named one of the nation’s top 10 Senior Woman’s Administrators at the Division I level by College AD.
“I look forward to the interim appointment and thank President Albrecht for the opportunity to serve in this capacity,” said Doggett. “Moving forward, we want to make sure our student-athletes have all the resources available to them to be successful both in the classroom, as well as on the playing field. We will also strive to continue the momentum established under Scott’s leadership in both fundraising and facility upgrades.”
Doggett is the athletic department’s second-in-command and oversees the department’s external operations, which includes event management, media relations, new media, Aggie Sports Properties, licensing and Sodexo concession sales. She also supervises the sports of football, men and women’s basketball and volleyball.
Doggett has also been the athletics department lead liaison with the construction of the Wayne Estes Center, USU’s Olympic Sports Complex and the current renovations to the west side of Maverik Stadium.
No timeline has been established for an athletic director appointment.
