Child sex abuse charges dropped against Sandy man already serving a prison sentence for similar charges

Matthew C. Henderson, 35, charged with 12 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

LOGAN — State attorneys have dropped felony child sex abuse charges against a 35-year-old Sandy man after he was sentenced to prison on similar charges in West Jordan.

Matthew C. Henderson appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon on three charges of sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. He was arrested in May, accused of molesting a seven-year-old girl multiple times in Logan and at his home in Sandy. The abuses allegedly began in 2011 and continued until March of this year.

State attorney Barbara Lachmar said prosecutors reached a global resolution to drop the charges filed by the Cache County Attorney’s Office since Henderson pleaded guilty to similar charges and was sentenced to prison.

Court records show Henderson was sentenced to two terms of six-years-to-life in the Utah State Prison after accepting a plea deal, pleading guilty to two charges. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
