LOGAN — A former director of the Whittier Community Center has been sentenced to 10-days in jail for stealing money and other items from the center while he was employed there.

Court records show Jon W. Alfred appeared in 1st District Court Monday morning after previously accepting a plea deal from state prosecutors and attempting to pay back a portion of the money, allegedly stolen.

In November 2014, Alfred was charged with using the center’s credit accounts to purchase various items. He would later return those items, keeping the money for personal use and online gaming.

He was also accused of purchasing electronics, videos and clothes that were not accounted for, and issuing a bonus payroll check to himself. He reportedly stole more than $17,761.

Alfred was employed at the center from 2011 to 2014 before reportedly accepting a teaching position in Arizona. He has already returned more than $14,800 back to the center.
