Utah Highway Patrol troopers say fatigue or impairment may have been the cause of a fatal accident Thursday morning, killing a 28-year-old Willard man.
UHP Lt. Lee Perry said Jordan R. Hales was driving a green Subaru Legacy eastbound on SR-13 around 9 a.m., toward Brigham City. Near milepost seven, the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane hitting a Freightliner semi-truck and trailer head-on.
Hales was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed instantly. The driver and passenger in the semi were not injured.
Perry said Hales had a history of drug use and may have been impaired or drowsy at the time of the accident. Troopers also recovered his cell phone but don’t believe that he was using it at the time.
Hales’ body was turned over to State Medical Examiners. Perry said they will see if an autopsy detects the use of any chemicals.
SR-13 was closed from Corinne eastbound and I-15 westbound until noon while the vehicles and debris could be cleared and the crash could be investigated.
