LOGAN — A 29-year-old Nibley man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a teenage girl and could be sentenced to 5-years-to-life in prison.
Juan R. Delatorre waived his right to a preliminary hearing in 1st District Court Tuesday afternoon. He pleaded guilty to two counts of forcible sodomy and one count of object rape, all first-degree felonies.
Delatorre reportedly abused the victim multiple times while she was around 14-years-old. He was arrested May 4, after the victim’s mother caught him attempting to sodomize her again.
He was booked into the Cache County Jail and held without bail after reportedly threatening the victim’s mother that he would flee to Mexico if she talked to police.
Under conditions of the plea agreement, state attorneys dropped the remaining nineteen charges and are recommending Delatorre be sentenced to three consecutive sentences of five-years-to-life in prison.
The plea will spare the victim from having to testify in court.
Sentencing has been scheduled for August 24.
