The first week of the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre’s 23rd season ends Saturday with the annual Gala fundraising dinner and a program featuring some of the principal artists and musicians.
Founder and General Director Michael Ballam says it starts at 5 p.m. in the Elements Restaurant at the Riverwoods Conference Center. After the dinner the premier performance of Man of La Mancha will be performed on the stage of the Ellen Eccles Theatre.
Ballam says there is also an exciting event earlier Saturday at 1 p.m.: a concert with eight concert pianists.
“They will play together on two pianos,” says Ballam. “It’s delightful, especially for those who have within the realm of their influence young people who are taking piano lessons.
“This is a wonderful way for them to see what they are really capable of doing, the majesty of the piano and what it can accomplish.”
In addition to Man of La Mancha, the mainstage productions this season are La Boheme, Carousel, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
