Progress being made on Utah Theater, but it won’t be done until September

The Utah Festival and Musical Theatre’s 23rd season continues with its alternating main stage productions along with other special events. Founding Director Michael Ballam says one of those special events comes Friday, July 17 with Vanessa Schukis portraying culinary icon Julia Child in a comic one-act opera.

Ballam says this event was to have been held in the Utah Theater but the extensive restoration is not yet completed.

“I suspect in September we will begin showing classic films and our mighty Wurlitzer should be prepared and ready to sing,” Ballam says of the progress on the theater. “We are doing Peter Pan as the first musical in it and that will take place in December of this year.

“It will be up and running and very well prepared to do at least two shows next season.”

Meanwhile, Ballam says there is a Late Night Caberet at the Cafe Sabor Restaurant tonight at 11 p.m.
