LOGAN — A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a 27-year-old fraternity member accused of raping two girls.
Court records show Jason B. Relopez appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He currently faces three charges of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping and rape, all first-degree felonies, as state prosecutors consider additional charges against him.
Judge Brian Cannell set a hearing date for August 6 when he will hear prosecutors’ evidence and determine if Relopez will be bound over for trial.
The former Sigma Chi fraternity member was arrested last week after a woman claimed he raped her multiple times while she was attending a party at the fraternity house, in July. He remains in the Cache County Jail and is being held without bail.
Relopez has been suspended from both Utah State University and the Sigma Chi fraternity, pending the outcome of the criminal case against him.
