ATV accident sends two boys to the hospital

NORTH LOGAN — Two boys were injured after the ATV they were riding collided with a truck Wednesday evening, along the east canal.

North Park Police Sgt. John Italisano said the accident occurred just north of 3100 North and 1600 East around 6:15 p.m. Four 12-year-old boys were riding a Yamaha 4-wheeler on a private canal access road when they hit a pickup truck driving in the opposite direction.

Italisano said the four boys were riding the ATV, travelling north, when they came upon a Ford F-250 truck, travelling south. Both drivers apparently saw each other too late and took evasive action the same way, turning into the canal.

When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found the ATV under the truck with one of the boys partially pinned underneath. He and one other boy were transported to Logan Regional Hospital with internal injuries, lacerations, scrapes and an ankle injury. Both were later transported to Primary Children’s Medical Center, one by Air-Med helicopter.

Italisano said none of the boys were wearing helmets. One of the boys injured was the driver of the ATV. The two other passengers were not injured. The driver of the truck was also unhurt.

No citations were issued but the crash is under investigation.
