By now, many people are familiar with Honor Flight, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing veterans with honor and closure. Each year Honor Flight honors American veterans by transporting World War II survivors, along with other veterans who may be terminally ill, to Washington, DC to visit and reflect at their memorials.

Representative Lee Perry, R-District 29, said this year members of the Utah House of Representatives raised $35,000 of their own money to sponsor the Honor Flight.

“This next week we have kind of a session, it’s a rolling session,” Perry said. “Most of the house members and most of the senate will be going down to Southern Utah, to Moab.

“But some of us said it’s more important to be a part of this. Representative (Brad) Dee, Representative (Stephen) Handy and myself are going to go as escorts or guardians with World War II veterans and show them their monuments.”

On KVNU’s For the People program Monday, Perry said one of those making the trip is 93 year old Navy veteran Haven Barlow, father of house member Stewart Barlow. Haven Barlow is a former member of the House of Representatives himself.
