Logan man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting two women

LOGAN — A 26-year-old Logan man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two woman and will now await sentencing in November.

Deeyvid A. Baltazar appeared in 1st District Court Monday morning. He was arrested in April and charged with rape, a first-degree felony.  He remains in the Cache County Jail on a $20,000 bail.

Under conditions of the plea, Baltazar pleaded guilty to one count of attempted forcible sexual abuse, a third-degree felony. He also pleaded guilty to a second charge, after state prosecutors said another victim came forward with similar allegations against him.

Prosecutors said the agreement asks for a concurrent sentence on both charges.

State attorney Barbara Lachmar told the court, in each charge the victims knew Baltazar and were breaking off their relationships with him, when he engaged in sex acts with them against their consent. Lachmar said both victims claimed Baltazar refused to stop after they told him no.

The first assault occurred in November 2013 and the second in April 2015.

The case was originally scheduled for a four-day jury trial in January. The plea deal now protects the victims from having to testify in court.

Lachmar said she had spoken with both victims, who approved of the plea agreement. She told Judge Thomas Willmore, prosecutors would be recommending prison.

Willmore ordered Baltazar to remain in jail and appear again in court November 30 for sentencing.
