Governor welcomes 3 millionth Utah citizen

Today we announced the arrival of the 3 millionth Utahn. Jeanette and I welcomed Utah's newest residents in the maternity ward at Mountain Point Medical Center. Congratulations to the Berbert and Christensen families on the birth of their daughters. The future of Utah is bright.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert recently visited Lehi to meet baby Austin. The little boy was counted as Utah’s 3 millionth citizen.

Herbert and his wife Jeanette met with several families with newborns at Lehi’s Mountain Point Medical Center on Monday. They gave each family a onesie with the words “3 millionth Utahn.”

Herbert says he chose to recognize families with new babies because two-thirds of Utah’s population growth is from internal sources.

But he says the state is also growing because people move to Utah for its quality of life and its economy.

Herbert also attended a lunch hosted by Envision Utah, a group devoted to creating a sustainable future for the state.

Envision Utah advocates for cleaner cars, avoiding air pollution, using less water and improving education.
