Large drug bust in Tremonton puts Logan man in jail

Small quantity of heroin and approximately 3.6 pounds of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia found in a Tremonton motel room. The street value of the methamphetamine is over $100,000.00.

A 35-year-old Logan man was arrested Tuesday in Tremonton when police officers allegedly found drugs in his vehicle, and in a motel room he had been staying at.

In a press release, Tremonton City Police Chief David Nance said Jack Morelos was booked into the Box Elder County Jail, after officers found approximately $100,000.00 of methamphetamine and heroin.

Police were called to the motel after employees found a suspicious substance in a room Morelos was staying in. The employees were cleaning the room after he had left. Officers responded and identified the items found in the room as meth and other drug paraphernalia.

Nance said Morelos returned to the motel a short time later and was taken into custody.

Officers continued searching the room and the suspect’s vehicle. In all, they reportedly found 3.6 pounds of meth, a small quantity of heroin and the drug paraphernalia.

Morelos is being held on initial offences of possession of drugs with the intent to distribute, a second-degree felony and other drug misdemeanors. Formal charges are expected as the investigation continues.

Court records show Morelos has previously faced similar charges. In 2007, he was sentenced to one-to-15-years in prison.

Nance said the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office and the Box Elder Strike Force are assisting with the investigation.
