It is not just another New Year. The year 2016 is the sesquicentennial year for the City of Logan. Mayor Craig Petersen says Logan was incorporated as a city on January 17, 1866 and during the coming year there will be a lot of different events to celebrate that historic date.

On KVNU’s For the People program Wednesday, the Mayor said the sesquicentennial year will be launched on January 17th, which happens to be a Sunday, and it will take place in the Logan Tabernacle starting at 7 p.m.

He said it will be a really exciting program.

“We’ll have the American Festival Chorus come participate in that,” said Petersen. “The other person that will participate, who we have confirmed, is one of our Logan natives and one of our most successful businessmen: Elder Gary Stevenson.

“He is the newest member of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles. He will come and speak as part of that event. We are excited to have him and the American Festival Chorus.”

Petersen said there will be other events celebrating the sesquicentennial throughout the year.
