He has been serving as vice chairman over the last year and Greg Merrill will take over as chairman of the Cache County Council at its first meeting of the year on January 12.
Merrill says he is looking forward to the experience and he has set some goals that he feels that, if followed, will be helpful to the council and also the community.
Most importantly, Merrill says he wants council members in 2016 to provide the kinds of services the public expects them to provide. And, he says it is important to do that in a way that is efficient and also transparent.
“I’m going to propose to the council members that we continue to meet as members with our department heads and elected officials on a regular basis throughout the year,” Merrill says. “We will be able to determine what is going on with those departments.
“When we get to year-end, when it comes to budget time, we’ll have a better understanding what those needs are for those particular departments.”
Merrill says he would also like to establish a public relations committee, or coordinator, to let the public know about some of the positive things the county is involved with and to highlight some of the important things the employees are doing. Another function of this committee, or coordinator, would be to encourage county employees to be active in community affairs.
“We have a lot of positive stories and human interest stories within the county,” explains Merrill. “I think by establishing a coordinator there that he or she will be able to help the public realize the positive and human interest stories we have among county employees.
“Also, I would like to start highlighting some of our employees, establishing an Employee of the Month.”
Merrill says he will do his best to make sure constituents are receiving the best services the county can provide and that the services be provided in a transparent manner.
