Smithfield accident knocks out power to nearby customers

A single vehicle accident north of Smithfield knocked out power temporarily to nearby customers and slowed traffic after a truck clipped a utility pole.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cade Brenchley said 46-year-old Danielle D. Loveland of Richmond was driving a silver Dodge pick-up, traveling southbound on US-91. Near 7800 North, the truck drifted off the road, striking the pole.

Loveland was transported to Cache Valley Hospital with a possible broken arm.

The damaged pole supported numerous power lines that were damaged and sagging after the crash. Traffic was restricted while troopers cleared the accident and crews with Rocky Mountain Power replaced the pole.

The accident occurred at 12:50 p.m. Thursday. No other vehicles were involved and Brenchley said troopers believe Loveland may have been distracted, lighting a cigarette just before the crash.
