Senior Parker Bluth sets 200m record as Utah State Track & Field rises to the occasion Saturday at New Mexico Team Invitational

Albuquerque, N.M. – Utah State’s track & field teams showed they belong with tough competition by recording 11 top-five finishes at the New Mexico Team Invitational on Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Utah State’s men placed seventh (55 points), with the Aggie women taking eighth (28 points) at this week’s team-scored invitational.

Parker Bluth, a senior, set a school record in the 200m, placing second with a time of 20.73. Bluth passed the mark of 20.80 set by fellow senior Nic Bowens in 2015. With the recent record, Bluth now holds Utah State’s 200m indoor and outdoor records. Additionally, Bluth’s 200m time ranks third nationally.

Bluth and, fellow senior Cole Lambourne, along with sophomores Clay Lambourne and Brady Martin broke the school record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:08.89. The relay team ended up placing second in that event.

“The team improved in most areas,” said veteran Utah State head coach Gregg Gensel. “We set school records in the 200 and 4x400m, with Parker Bluth being key in both of those performances. Also, Maci Bingham moved up the conference rankings, so overall it was a great weekend.”

Dillon Maggard was the lone event winner for the Aggies. The sophomore won the mile with a time of 4:05.68, which ranks third all-time in Utah State history. After altitude adjustments, Maggard’s converted time ranks fifth in the nation.

On the women’s side, Bingham, a senior, placed third in the weight throw posting a career-high heave of 18.04m (59-2.25). Additionally, sophomore Olivia Moriconi placed fourth with a toss of 14.94m (49-00.25) in the shot put, which ranks third all-time in Utah State history.

The Lambourne brothers, fortified Utah State’s men by landing in the top-three in the 400m and 800m. Cole placed third in the 400m (47.05), while Clay also placed third in the 800m (1:51.99).

Other Aggie women to place in the top-five were junior Tori Parkinson in the mile (5:00.27), senior Jodi Williams in the high jump (1.70m/5-7) and sophomore Megan Ryan in the 800m (2:14.72).

Utah State track & field returns to action next weekend, Feb. 5-6., at the Boise State Invitaional in Nampa, Idaho.

The Mountain West Indoor Championships will be held in Albuquerque, N.M., on Feb. 25-27, just 12 days before the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on March 11.
