Annual Cowboy Rendezvous adding educational outreach for local students

Award-winning country singer Billy Dean will appear in concert at the 6th Annual Cache Valley Cowboy Rendezvous to be held March 4-6 at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum.

General Chairman Dale Major says Canadian performers Eli Barsi and Doris Daley will be appearing with Dean Saturday, March 5th at 2 p.m. The Cowboy Family Dance will be hosted at 7:30 that evening by Michael Martin Murphy and his band.

Major says there is also a Cowboy Opry featuring Gary Allegretto, Ernie Sites and Thatch Elmer & Tumbleweeds starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 5th.

Major says something else has been added to the Rendezvous.

“We have an educational outreach program that we’ve been able to get some funding for. We’ve got some artists that will be going out more,” Major explains. “They will be spending a lot more time in the schools.”

Major says that hundreds of students will benefit and will actually get something they can take home.

“We’ve got a guy, Gary Allegretto, who is a harmonica cowboy and he will be teaching probably 400-500 students in the Cache Valley how to play the harmonica,” he continues. “Then he’ll give them a harmonica so they’ll go home with a harmonica and a few tunes they can play.”
