Man hospitalized after being hit in vehicle/pedestrian accident

A 74-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday afternoon, when he was hit and run over by a truck while walking along State Road 165 in Nibley.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said Carmen Balderas-Martinz was walking along the sidewalk near 3285 South SR-165, when he was hit by a Chevy Suburban. The truck was reportedly backing out of a driveway when it struck the man, pushing him into the roadway.

The front tires of the truck rolled over his torso. He was transported by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital with internal injuries.

The female driver of the truck reportedly didn’t see the man, as she was backing up.

Peterson said snow was piled up along the driveway and could have obstructed her view. Deputies believe the incident was accidental but are continuing to investigate.
