Crumb Brothers business in southwest Logan received what it wanted at Tuesday’s meeting of the Logan City Council. Council members agreed to give local consent to the business for an alcohol license so that the State Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission can grant a variance with regard to the proximity of the business to Kilowatt Park. The variance also applies to public or private school, church, public library, public playground or park.
Neighbors and others spoke out in support of the resolution but one council member, Eugene Needham, voted “No.”
“I think alcohol has ruined millions of our American citizens and worldwide I think it is a plague and a problem,” exclaimed Needham. “It can be couched in a very gentle way that it’s just over the line, and so on.
“If I had been on the council at anytime that alcohol had been suggested at one place or another I would have voted against it every time.”
Crumb Brothers is located at 290 South 300 West in Logan.
