Super Tuesday is over, tens of thousands of people voted and the results have left Cache County Republican Party Chairman Boyd Pugmire feeling disappointed.
Pugmire anticipated Donald Trump would receive most of the presidential votes, but he was hoping Marco Rubio would come in second. Instead, Trump received 315 delegates, Ted Cruz came next with 216 and Rubio was third with a total of 158.
He says Rubio has a lot to overcome if he is going to face Trump in a primary election. Instead, he says it looks like the candidate will be Senator Cruz.
“I don’t feel he’s as electable,” says Pugmire. “The only way we are going to win the election is we’ve got to pull the moderates, we’ve got to pull the independents, we’ve got to pull the conservative Democrats. That’s not going to happen with someone as far to the right as Cruz is.”
Pugmire says he feels that Rubio would have a better chance of defeating Hillary Clinton than any other Republican candidate.
