LOGAN, Utah – Sophomore guards Funda Nakkasoglu and Baylee Peck are leaving the Utah State women’s basketball program, citing personal reasons for their departures.
“Funda and I talked at great length over a two-day period. With the blessing of her parents, she has decided to pursue other basketball options,” said Utah State head coach Jerry Finkbeiner. “We wish Funda the very best. I look forward to the continued progress and evolution of our women’s basketball program here at Utah State.”
In her two years at USU, Nakkasoglu (Hampton, Victoria, Australia) played in and started all but two games of her USU career. In her two years, she averaged 19.1 points per game and leaves with 1,149 points. Nakkasoglu was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year last season and earned first-team all-conference honors this year.
“It has been a hard decision, weighing all the factors. In the end, I decided to test myself in a different setting,” Nakkasoglu said. “My thoughts will be with the team and all the good people I met here in Logan. It has been an invaluable experience overall.”
Peck (Leander, Texas) played in 25 games in her two seasons at Utah State. She averaged 2.3 minutes per game, tallying five points and eight rebounds.
