Cache food pantry may be open more days, longer hours to meet need

Before long some changes will be made at the Cache Community Food Pantry. Executive Director Matt Whittaker says for years the pantry has been open all day on Tuesday only to serve the families who qualify for assistance through the food pantry.

He says the hours they can come in now are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Unfortunately, Whittaker says, the number of families needing help has been growing.

“So we need to accommodate them a little better,” Whittaker says, “by being open maybe three days a week and maybe one evening for a few hours one day, instead of all day long. It will be little more work for us, on our part, but it’s going to be more convenient for the families that come there.”

Although it will be more work for the people at the food pantry, Whittaker says it is important to accommodate everyone. He says money will have to be raised for more shelving, more reach-in refrigerators, another reception desk and perhaps some other items.
