Logan Mayor says Emporium site might not get used for new library

The decision has been made for Logan City to purchase the Emporium building but Mayor Craig Petersen said it has not yet been decided what will be done with that space in the heart of downtown.

There has been a lot of talk about building a new library there but on KVNU’s Let Me Speak to the Mayor segment on Wednesday, Petersen said other sites are also being considered.

“If we did decide that the Emporium is not the site for the library, now the city will own that property,” Petersen said. “What we would do is to probably try to incentivize private business to come in there. So one way or another I am committed to the point that the Emporium can’t stay as it is.”

The mayor said whatever happens to that part of downtown it will be done in an effort to revitalize the area. He said there is very little business activity going on in the 40-year old building.
