Local shooters win top honors at tri-state competition

Several local teenagers traveled to Elko, Nevada, last month competing in a tri-state tournament and returning with top honors.

The Cache Valley Crushers, a Scholastic Clay Target Program, took the high award for total points, and other top individual and team trophies.

Assistant coach Verl Hanchett said there were over 100 shooters competing in the weekend event. The group won the high overall senior and junior team awards, along with the big prize of $5,000, for winning the high overall team award.

Jeremy Carlson won the High Senior Trap Boy competition for shooting 100 straight clay traps. Emma Sorenson won the High Senior Trap Girl competition for shooting 98 out of 100 traps.

The High Overall Senior Girl was Brontae Carlson. Hunter and Lexie Thompson each won the High Overall Junior category for boys and girls respectively.

Hanchett said even though the team is quite young, they did really well.

The other participants, who range in age from eight-to-18, included Waylon Thompson, Koltin Kunzler, Braedin Hill, Alissa Stokes, Austin Brown, Trae Larocco, Tristin Eddings, Tyler Baldwin, Andrew Wright, Wiley Jensen, Ammon Shultz, Titus Shadegg, Robert Maughn, and Bryce Christensen. Their Head Coach is Robert Blanchard with other assistant coaches, Shane Hansen, Russ Liechty, and J.R. Nostrom.

The club meets weekly at the Cache Valley Public Shooting Range, Friday nights.
