Summerfest giving more time for artists in annual Plein Air competition

Summerfest 2016 will be opening on Thursday, June 16 and running through Saturday, June 18 on the grounds of the Logan Tabernacle. Executive Director Elaine Thatcher says more than 130 artists have committed to come from all over the country and there will be a variety of food and activities for all ages.

Thatcher says there will be a change in the Summerfest Plein Air painting and photography contest this year where paintings are done outdoors from photographs or imagination. Thatcher says more time will be allotted for the artists.

“They’ve always registered on Monday morning and then they have until Wednesday to produce a painting of a scene in Cache Valley. This year,” Thatcher explains, “we are moving the registration up to Friday before Summerfest so they have more days to go out and paint.”

Thatcher says anyone who desires to enter the Plein Air contests can get more information by calling (435) 213-3858.
