Toddler dies after being run over by SUV

LOGAN — A 13-month-old boy was killed Monday night after being hit and run over by an SUV.

Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said the boy was playing with other neighborhood children in the driveway of his home at 1700 S. 1330 W. around 7:00 p.m. The boys mother was watching the children from the front porch, when she went inside momentarily.

While inside the home, a neighbor who lives across the street, driving an SUV, backed out of his driveway and ran over the child, who had wandered into the roadway.

Hooley said when the mother walked back outside, she found the neighbor standing over her child, attempting to render first-aid.

Paramedics were called to the scene and rushed the toddler to Logan Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Hooley said the death initially appears to be an accident but officers are conducting a thorough investigation.

The names of the victim and driver are not being released pending notification of family.
