LOGAN, Utah – With the release of the complete conference schedule from the Mountain West, Utah State women’s basketball has announced the league portion of its schedule for the 2016-17 season.
The schedule format for the 11-member lineup includes eight home-and-home series and two one-time games. Each institution will play nine home contests and make nine roadtrips during the conference portion of the season. This is the fourth year that the Mountain West has utilized the 18-game format since expanding to its current membership in 2013-14. Competition is set to begin on Thursday, Dec. 29 and will conclude on Friday, March 3.
The Aggies will open the conference season on the road, playing at Boise State on Thursday, Dec. 29. The team will then return to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, hosting Air Force on Saturday, Dec. 31. Utah State will then play two straight road games, traveling to New Mexico and UNLV for games on Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Saturday, Jan. 7, respectively. The following week will give the Aggies a pair of home games, as USU will host Wyoming on Wednesday, Jan. 11 and San Diego State on Saturday, Jan. 14.
Utah State will then have its first bye of the conference season before playing at Colorado State on Saturday, Jan. 21. New Mexico will be the first repeat opponent of league play as the Aggies host the Lobos on Wednesday, Jan. 25. USU will travel to Fresno State on Saturday, Jan. 28 for its sole game of the season against the Bulldogs.
The month of February will open with Utah State playing at Nevada on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The Aggies then again play two consecutive games at home, hosting Boise State on Saturday, Feb. 4 and Colorado State on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The team will then play at Wyoming on Saturday, Feb. 11 and at San Diego State on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
Action from the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum will continue on Saturday, Feb. 18, when USU hosts Nevada. The Aggies then play its other single-game opponent, hosting San José State on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Utah State’s final road game of the regular season will be played at Air Force on Saturday, Feb. 25. USU will close the year with a home game against UNLV on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The Aggies will then have a few days off to prepare for tournament play with their second bye of the season.
League play will determine the seeding for the 2017 Mountain West Women’s Basketball Championship, held March 6-8 and 10 at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.
Utah State will return nine players from the 2015-16 roster, a team that finished the year with a 14-17 overall record, going 8-10 in Mountain West action. The Aggies will also welcome six new players to the squad, replacing six others lost to graduation or transfer.
