Gubernatorial candidate was in town over Summerfest weekend

Registered Republicans in Cache County will see two races on their primary ballot and four names: two names for the county council race, Casey Saxton and Karl Ward. The winner of that race will, most likely, be on the county council.

You will also see on your ballot, a choice for Governor. Last Tuesday, Governor Gary Herbert was featured on KVNU’s For the People program. His opponent, C.E.O. Jonathan Johnson was a guest on the Tuesday show this week.

“It has been quite a race,” Johnson said. “I’ve been traveling up and down the state. I was actually in Logan on most of the day Saturday, attended the Summerfest and the message has been well received. At the state convention, I was able to best Governor Herbert by 10 percentage points and we’re now in the primary and I think we’re going to see a similar result.”

Johnson also was at a meet-and-greet, town-hall style event hosted by former For the People co-host Jonathan Choate.

Johnson reiterated his opposition to Common Core education standards saying he has nothing against standards or tests, but that they can better be administered at local and school district levels where parents and teachers have more of a say on what’s being done.

The Republican primary is June 28.
