Once a month, Logan Mayor Craig Peterson stops by KVNU’s For the People program to talk about city issues. On Wednesdays’ show the mayor updated everyone on a couple of projects just blocks apart.
” If people will look at 4th North from about Main Street to 700 East, they’ll notice that there are 2 sets of lights. There’s a 50-year-old, what we call Cobra lights and then there are some newer decorative lights. And the intent is that in a couple of weeks we’ll have a little ceremony and do an official switch …the old, ugly lights will come down and the attractive, decorative lights will go up”, according to Peterson.
The mayor also talked about the closure and construction going on around the steep dugway that heads down 600 East from 400 North to the Island.
“The intent on that, is that we’re putting a new sidewalk on the west side of the steep dugway”, said the mayor.
Peterson reminisced, “For as long as I can remember, and that’s a long, long time in that area, because that’s the area I grew up in, people who wanted to get up and down the steep dugway by foot.. there was a very narrow asphalt path, it was about a foot wide and you took your life in hands,” .
“And so we’re going to have a nice sidewalk and that will be ready for the students in the fall. But for now it’s an inconvenience, in fact, that’s probably as much of an inconvenience as we could cause, because there just aren’t a lot of really good alternatives to the steep dugway”, said Peterson.
The mayor said the road closure will probably go to the end of July, but there will be some ongoing construction to finish up. The goal is to have it ready to go by the time the students come back.
