Possible plea deal for Smithfield man charged with voyeurism

LOGAN — A possible plea deal is in the works for Jason David Denton, a 39-year-old Smithfield man charged with voyeurism.

Denton appeared in 1st District Court with his attorney Shannon Demler, Tuesday morning.

Demler told the court he had spoken with prosecutors, who are considering a plea deal. He asked the judge for more time to give them the opportunity to discuss the offer with the victim.

Denton was arrested May 13 after turning himself in to deputies at the Cache County Jail. At the same time, Smithfield City Police were investigating him on allegations of voyeurism, after receiving a report from caseworkers at the Division of Child and Family Services. He was later charged with voyeurism, a class A misdemeanor.

The victim is reportedly a juvenile.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Brian Cannell said he would allow attorneys additional time to work out a resolution. He ordered Denton to appear again on July 26.
