Mendon man appears in court on rape and burglary charges

LOGAN — A 37-year-old Mendon man accused of rape and burglary appeared in 1st District Court Monday on two felony charges.

Michael Bitang Ibuyan made his initial appearance, as a judge scheduled a preliminary hearing for August 23, when prosecutors will present their evidence in the case.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said Ibuyan allegedly was staying at the victim’s home in April, when he forced the woman to have sex with him.

Ibuyan was later arrested and charged with object rape, a fist-degree felony, and burglary, a second-degree felony. He was later released from jail after posting $30,000 bond.

During Monday’s hearing, Judge Kevin Allen ordered Ibuyan to surrender his passport after prosecutors alleged that he is in the country illegally. Judge Allen also placed him on pretrial supervision and ordered him to have no contact with the victim.
