Hyrum’s Star Spangled Celebration to begin Saturday morning

HYRUM – Fireworks, parades, a water fight, a patriotic program and even a medieval tournament will all be a part of the annual Star Spangled Celebration this weekend.

The festivities will start Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. with a youth parade that will be followed with a water fight with the local firefighters.

Mayor Stephanie Miller said her favorite part of the celebration takes place Sunday when everyone meets in the City Square for the Patriotic Program. She said the grand marshal will be announced and a “Hyrum Hero” will be honored.

“It just doesn’t seem like it’s the Fourth of July without that,” she said. “Because it’s a neat thing to see, honor the country and honor our veterans.”

KUTV meteorologist Sterling Poulson will be the speaker and the Imperial Glee Club will provide the music.

Monday will begin with the annual Freedom Run beginning at Hardware Ranch and a parade at 12 p.m. Booths and entertainment will be set up from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A medieval tournament will be held at the fairgrounds at 4 p.m. Miller said that is a new event this year.

“We had someone that came to us and asked if we would be interested in having that as something that’s part of the Fourth of July and asked if they could be a part of it,” she said. “We agreed to let them do that.”

A baseball game between the Hyrum Hornets and Smithfield Blue Sox will start at 7 p.m., the fireworks will start at 10 p.m. and will be followed with a youth dance.
