‘It’s okay to ask for help’

Everyone is invited to join the Box Elder County Suicide Prevention Coalition in their fifth Suicide Awareness Walk. The event is scheduled for Friday, July 15th at 7:30 p.m. starting at Jeannie Stevens Park.

The location is 614 North 1000 West in Tremonton. Jennie Schultz has been with the coalition since it started five years ago and she believes anyone could benefit from it.

“I think the big thing is not being afraid to talk about it,” Schultz says. “So many people think if we talk about it it will lead to suicide. And that is not true at all.

“We just need to talk about it and get it out there, let them know it’s okay to ask for help. Mental illness is no different than cancer, or diabetes. It’s an illness and we need to talk about it, do more research, and let people know that needs to be done.”

Schultz says the coalition is comprised of individuals from both Cache and Box Elder counties and those participating come from many different walks of life.
