Utah Festival Opera to feature patriotic July 24th program

LOGAN – The second week is ending for the 2016 Utah Festival Opera and Music Theatre. General Operations Manager Gary Griffin said large crowds have been attending the productions, many of them from outside Cache Valley. Griffin said in addition to the main-stage productions the season offers several specific programs, concerts and classes.

He said just in time for Pioneer Day a special patriotic program will be presented on Saturday July 23rd in the Ellen Eccles Theatre – “Pioneers and Patriots.”

“We’re going to do another John Philip Sousa concert,” he said. “Our friend John Michael Bankhead, who was the director of the Air Force band for many, many years is going to put together a 42-piece band. It will be on stage and he will be conducting the music.”

“We did this two years ago and it was a big hit, so we’re going to do this with new Sousa songs that we didn’t do last time.”

Griffin said another special event comes up on July 27th – a special concert that features highlights of Cole Porter’s legendary career.
