Local GOP leaders saw nothing wrong with Cruz’s speech

Some of Donald Trump’s supporters are criticizing Ted Cruz after the former presidential candidate failed to formally endorse Trump in his speech at the Republican National Convention Wednesday evening. Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort said Cruz should help unify the party.

Cache County Republican Party Vice Chair Gina Worthen said it should be Trump, not Cruz, who unifies the party.

“I thought the speech he gave was really unifying. He congratulated Donald Trump,” says Worthen. “He didn’t say negative things about him. His speech was approved by Trump.

“He talked about voting for Republican principles, standing up for Republican principles, voting up and down the ticket, voting with your conscience. I thought he gave a really great speech. I didn’t see anything wrong with it; I thought it was tremendous.”

Worthen said she is hoping that Cruz will run again next time and she does not think his failure to endorse Trump would hurt his chances.
