LOGAN — Fire crews are beginning to fight a forest fire that started burning north of the Beaver Mountain Ski Resort, Sunday afternoon.
Mary Ellen Fitzgerald, Fire Information Officer with the Wasatch Cache National Forest, said the Peterson Hollow Fire was burning actively overnight and has grown to about 130 acres. She explained that the blaze is not threatening the ski area or any structures.
Fire fighters are assessing whether any roads in the area will need to be closed.
Smoke from the fire has been visible to travelers, driving through Logan Canyon along US-89.
Fitzgerald said the cause of the fire is unknown and close to 70 firefighters are working on containment. They are being assisted by one helicopter and four engines.
