Police arrest two suspects after shooting outside Logan apartment

LOGAN — Police officers have arrested two people in connection with a shooting that allegedly took place outside an apartment complex, Tuesday morning.

Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen said 35-year-old Luis Alvarez and 35-year-old Yolanda Mendez were booked into jail Tuesday afternoon. Alvarez is being held on suspicion of attempted murder, obstructing justice and possession of firearms by a restricted person. Mendez is also being held on suspicion of obstructing justice.

Police were called to an apartment complex around 6:45 a.m., after a man claimed he got into a fight with Alvarez and was shot at while fleeing the area. SWAT Teams surrounded the apartment but later found the suspect at a home, two-blocks south.

Jensen said detectives have found a shell casing and several firearms. They are still trying to determine what lead to the two men fighting.

“We are working with them right now to try and figure out, walking backwards and see why this whole thing started the way it did,” explained Jensen.

Formal charges are pending a completion of the investigation.
