Wells comments on freshman football player’s car crash and expected recovery

LOGAN – Utah State football head coach said his freshman safety has a long recovery in front of him.

Zach Swenson, who is in his redshirt season at USU, was hospitalized after suffering a fractured leg in a single-vehicle accident last Thursday night in Logan Canyon. Wells said Swenson had surgery Friday morning before spending the weekend at home with his family.

“I’ve communicated with him and his father, and I think the surgery went well,” he said. “It will be a very long recovery for him, but they think it will be a complete recovery. It is very fortunate that a broken leg is the only thing that happened.”

Swenson joined the USU football team after completing his two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints earlier this year. He played high school football for East High in Salt Lake City.
