Former USU football player appears in court on rape charges

LOGAN — Former USU football player Torrey J. Green made his first appearance in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon, one week after charges were filed alleging the 22-year-old raped five women.

Green appeared by closed-circuit video from the Cache County Jail. He spoke only briefly, answering “yes” as Judge Thomas Willmore asked if he was the alleged defendant.

Judge Willmore said the court had received a call from Green’s attorney earlier in the day, asking that the arraignment be continued until next week. He ordered the defendant to remain in jail without bail, and appear Tuesday morning in Judge Brian Cannell’s courtroom.

The video appearance lasted only four minutes.

Green has been in jail since being extradited from California on Monday. He’s been charged with four counts of rape and one count of aggravated kidnapping, all first-degree felonies, also forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. The alleged assaults took place between November 2013 and January 2016.
