Ballet using story times to teach children and families about Nutcracker

The Cache Valley Civic Ballet will be presenting its popular production of Nutcracker later this year, but the company is currently sharing the story of Nutcracker at libraries located throughout Cache Valley.

Stephanie Casperson, teacher and ambassador for Cache Valley Civic Ballet, says the first year story times were held for approximately 253 households and more than 420 children were reached.

This year, in addition to libraries, a story time will be held at the Whittier Community Center so families with daytime conflicts may attend. She says the highlight of the “Storytimes With a Ballerina” is always when the kids get to see and meet a ballerina in costume.

“We go, we share,” says Casperson. “We’re sharing two stories this year, three if you count my brief recap of the Nutcracker story. Then we’ll have the Snow Queen who is performing the Nutcracker this year.

“She will come and perform a little dance. The kids will all get to learn a little bit of ballet then there is an opportunity to get pictures of her in her gorgeous costume.”

The story time schedule is Tuesday, November 1 at 1 p.m. at the Smithfield Library; Thursday, November 3rd at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyrum Library; Friday, November 4th at 11 a.m. at the Logan Library; and, Friday, November 4th at the Whittier Community Center at 6 p.m.
