LOGAN — Several local attorneys have been nominated to replace a juvenile court judge, who plans to retire in March of next year.
The 1st District Judicial Nominating Commission announced the nominees earlier this month. The list includes three from Cache Valley; County Attorney James Swink, Deputy Cache County Attorney Jacob Gordon and attorney R. Christian Hansen of Hillyard, Anderson and Olsen.
Also nominated were Box Elder County Chief Deputy Attorney Kirk Morgan and Janette White, an assistant attorney general at the Utah Attorney General’s Office.
The five nominees are being considered to replace Judge Jeffrey Burbank, who presides over the juvenile courts in Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties. He has served on the bench since being appointed in 1996.
Public comments were accepted until last week about the five nominees.
The names are now being sent to Governor Gary Herbert, who will announce his appointment within the next 30-days. The appointee must then be confirmed by the Utah Senate.
