Wellsville residents advised not to pump storm water into the city system

With high groundwater and continuing rain causing flooding throughout Cache Valley, Wellsville City officials are asking residents not to pump storm water into their sinks or bathtubs. As homeowners work to mitigate water problems inside and surrounding their properties, they are being instructed to pump water elsewhere to avoid overwhelming the city’s sewage system. If the city’s instructions are not followed, the increased volume of water could lead to serious backup issues in other homes.

“Get it as far away as you can from the houses,” said Scott Wells, Wellsville City manager. “You can pump water into a field, into a storm drain, but not into the city system.”

Ongoing precipitation is expected through Friday night and into Saturday morning, raising concerns about additional flooding.

“We’re doing the best we can to handle this,” said Wells, “and we need the help of everyone in the community.”
