Jury trial set for Logan man accused of aggravated assault

LOGAN — A judge has set a one-day jury trial for Mark Egbert, a 43-year-old Logan man accused of severely injuring another man after a night of drinking.

Egbert appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday. He has been charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, and three misdemeanors of stalking, assault and making a threat of violence.

Egbert was arrested in December after officers investigated the alleged assault of the victim that left him with a fractured back. The defendant also allegedly assaulted the victim’s wife when she tried to intervene.

During Tuesday’s court appearance, public defender Shannon Demler told the court he and prosecutors had not been able to resolve the case and asked for the one-day jury trial.

Judge Brian Cannell scheduled the trial for June 9.

Egbert is currently out on bail.
