USU Men’s Basketball Announces Italian Tour

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head men’s basketball coach Tim Duryea announced on Friday that the team will participate in a foreign tour in Italy from August 16-26. The tour will include stops in Rome, San Marino, Trieste and Lake Como, and will pit the Aggies against four teams from across the globe.

The tour is organized by Basketball Travelers Inc., an organization that also coordinates basketball tournaments such as the Paradise Jam and the Great Alaska Shootout. BTI, along with private donations, will supplement travel costs for the team and in turn Utah State will be playing in the Great Alaska Shootout during the 2019-20 season.

“We are very fortunate to be going on this trip,” Duryea said. “It is the first one that we have ever done and it is the most organized and best trip that BTI does. It is top-of-the-line in terms of cultural experience and basketball experience.”

The tour will allow the team to report earlier than normal and afford 10 extra days of practice. The Aggies will report to campus on Aug. 3 and begin practicing on Aug. 4. All players will be eligible to compete, including Utah State’s four incoming newcomers: Crew Ainge, Brock Miller, Dwayne Brown and DeAngelo Isby.

USU is anticipated to play teams from across the globe, as previous competition hailed from Lithuania, Iceland and countries from Africa.

“We’ll be playing teams from all over the world and it is high-level basketball,” Duryea said. “The teams will be club teams, professional teams and even national teams; they are all in play.”
