LOGAN — The sixth annual Cache Gran Fondo, an annual Italian-style ride around Northern Utah, is scheduled for Saturday, July 8, with the race beginning at Logan Regional Hospital. Committee member Troy Oldham said the ride has grown rapidly in popularity and more than 1,000 cyclists will participate this year.
Oldham said participants can ride on either a 50-mile or 100-mile route. He said part of the proceeds will be donated to the Logan Regional Hospital Foundation to fund mammograms for women.
“There were women who were coming in the clinics and then also in the community who weren’t getting screened because they didn’t have insurance,” he said, “and so our desire was to create a fund that would kind of remove that excuse so if somebody wanted to have a mammogram or if it was time to have a screening and they weren’t insured, they would be able to have that covered.”
Oldham said the Gran Fondo will end on Logan’s Main Street, where Downtown Alliance Director Gary Saxton is planning a special event with everyone invited to attend.
