25K Jobs Launch Tour seeks to elevate local economies to create prosperity for all Utahns

In Governor Gary Herbert’s 2017 State of the State address, he challenged the private and public sectors to create 25,000 jobs within Utah’s 25 rural counties over the next four years. To launch the initiative, Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox and World Trade Center Utah (WTC Utah) are leading a statewide jobs tour, visiting all 25 of Utah’s off-the-Wasatch Front counties this summer.

The next stops of the 25K Jobs Launch Tour will take place in Box Elder and Cache counties on July 17, with visits to Brigham City and Logan. The group will then visit Rich and Summit counties on July 18. The tour stops are designed to help companies and entrepreneurs navigate the growth and expansion of their businesses; provide resources for job seekers; and connect community leaders with government officials to address county needs.

Sandy Emile, president and CEO of the Cache Chamber of Commerce, encourages anyone with interest to join the 25K Jobs Launch Tour locally. The Box Elder County meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday on Utah State University’s Brigham City Campus, located at 989 S. Main Street. The Cache County gathering will take place on the Cache County Courthouse Plaza from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The plaza is located at 199 N. Main in Logan, between the Historic Courthouse and the Cache County Administration Building.

“The purpose of the event is to call awareness to the need to create new jobs and how to fill the new jobs with the right employees,” Emile said. “Many services are going to be there to help businesses find the right employees and get the right training for their employees so that we can grow and expand our businesses. There will also be opportunities for employees to find new tools and resources to help them find the jobs that are being created.”

The 25K Jobs Launch Tour is structured much like a business fair, with more than 20 organizations participating. Tour stops are open to the public and are designed to engage hosting communities in meaningful discussion about future opportunities. Partners include the Department of Workforce Services, local chambers of commerce, the Bear River Association of Governments (BRAG), Rural Community Consultants and the Small Business Administration. The Economic Development Corporation of Utah (edcUTAH) is also a key player.

25K Jobs invites participants to enjoy a free dinner and giveaways, along with networking and business funding opportunities. Tour stops are family friendly and are intended to help job seekers and business owners alike come together to “strengthen the local economy, create jobs and support local businesses.” Tuesday’s stops in Rich and Summit counties will take place in Garden City (Garden City Park) and Coalville (North Summit High School), from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. respectively.
